The Australian Skeptics Inc. is a group that investigates the paranormal and pseudo-science from a responsible scientific viewpoint. Most people are familiar with the more popular subjects that we investigate such as astrology, fortune telling, UFOs and crop circles. Did you know that we also investigate topics like fundamentalism, Feng Shui, subluxations and vitamin supplements? A list of all the major topics that we investigate can be found at the end of this page where we list What we are sceptical of. Test your sceptical knowledge and see how many of the topics on the list are unfamiliar to you. If you've never heard of the Australian Skeptics before then you should also take time to read The Aims of The Australian Skeptics. As of late 1996 we are pleased to announce that there are Skeptics committees in every Australian state and territory, see the State Branches page for more information. The Australian Skeptics are supported by donations and subscriptions from the 4000 strong national membership consisting of people drawn from a vast variety of age groups, cultures and professions. Many state and regional groups of the Australian Skeptics have their own local newsletters and often have dinner and chat evenings with guest speakers, quiz nights and other recreational activities. You'll occasionally find the Skeptics in newspapers, on television, or on the radio analysing or debunking some mysterious claim. If you're interested in joining the Australian Skeptics or just contacting us for any reason, please see our How To Join and Contacting the Australian Skeptics pages. The Australian Skeptics publish a national journal of fact and opinion named the Skeptic four times per year. Over the last 20 years, the Skeptic has reported and reviewed issues ranging from aliens to cryptozoology, and it even had an article on Electroencephaloneuromentimpography. All articles and pictures from 23 years of the Skeptic are now available on a CD-ROM. The Skeptics host an annual national convention which includes prominent scientists, researchers and authors amongst the keynote speakers. Previous speakers have included James Randi, Paul Davies, Susan Blackmore and Richard Dawkins. The most recent convention was held in Canberra in August 2003.
